The practice is a general partnership; consisting of 6 Doctors (see practice team page) and holds a General Medical Service contract with Lanarkshire Health Board.
The practice was awarded GP training practice accreditation in March 2014 and also takes part in the teaching programme of The Medical School, University of Glasgow.
As a training and teaching practice video recordings are sometimes made of consultations. These are made for teaching purposes only. Video recordings are only done with your consent and you do have the right to refuse. However, we would stress that all aspects of general practice, including training, are governed by rules of strict confidentiality. No examinations are filmed.
A GP Trainee is a fully qualified doctor training to specialise as a GP and are normally with the practice for six or twelve month periods.
A medical Student is undergoing training to become a qualified doctor and normally spend a four week medical school attachments at the practice.
The practice area is some 400 square miles. The Practice boundary extends up to Carmichael Visitor Centre on the West, Dunsyre to the North, Drumelzier to the East, and Tweedsmuir to the South. The list size is 7,359, with about 2,500 in Biggar itself and the rest in surrounding villages and farms. 84% of patients are in Lanarkshire and 15% in The Scottish Borders (Peeblesshire) region.
The practice is located in the Biggar Health Centre, which is rented from Lanarkshire Health Board. We are the only practice within it and the only practice in the town.
We also have a contract to provide GP cover to the The Kello Hospital located adjacent to the Health Centre.
